Nathan Wiley Set To Make Bigger National Impression With New Album

Summerside, Prince Edward Island singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Wiley's third album, The City Destroyed Me, could move him up a notch or two in the national consciousness along with such artists as Joel Plaskett and Matt Mays.
Though Wiley's 2002 Bottom Dollar debut earned him a 2003 East Coast Music Award for best alternative artist, and 2004's High Low was named alternative recording of the year at the 2005 ECMA ceremonies, he hasn't received the national acclaim that some of his contemporaries have. That should hopefully change with the new record, which is his most consistent effort yet.
The City Destroyed Me was recorded at Halifax's Sonic Temple studio and produced by Los Lobos' Steve Berlin, whose history of producing Canadian acts dates back to 1991 with Crash Test Dummies' Ghosts That Haunt Me. He also has production credits on Stephen Fearing's Assassin's Apprentice, The Tragically Hip's Phantom Power, Prairie Oyster's String Of Pearls: A Greatest Hits Collection and Great Big Sea's Turn.
Berlin, a saxophonist and keyboardist, also played on the album. Musicians Geoff Arsenault, Dale DesRoches, Brian Bourne and Mike Farrington, Jr. contributed to the record as well. The title track can be heard on Wiley's MySpace page.

Halifax-based Sonic Records and Warner Music Canada will release The City Destroyed Me on May 29. Wiley is also part of the Sonic Entertainment Group management roster and has a similar set-up as Mays.
While Wiley will tour in support of the new album, no dates are scheduled at this point.
